AUTOMATED TOW TRAINS IN ACTION

Item handling and just-in-time delivery are key for manufacturing sites. Thanks to the Autopilot range from Toyota, these processes can now be easily automated. With automated towing trains, you can organise “milk runs” in the production area. These can automatically hook and unhook the carriers safely at predefined workstations. Capable of being equipped with Lithium-Ion batteries, trains can auto-charge between tasks. Better still, they can achieve this without the need for personnel or charging rooms – making them fully automated.

EFFICIENT MILK RUNS

For replenishment of production, automated tow trains are exceptionally efficient. This is because they can carry more pallets at once and offer safe, fork-free material handling in busy areas, such as assembly lines. Depending on your needs, the Autopilot tow tractor can be programmed to run in a single loop with one or more trains. Otherwise, it can operate in multiple loops with several trains to support just-in-time delivery of goods. Using the “teach-in” method, the AGVs are manually driven to teach them the loops – ensuring the trolleys follow the precise path.

VARIETY OF LOAD CARRIERS

Automated tow trains can be hooked onto a variety of Toyota carriers. Depending on the type of load, its weight, and the loading/unloading operation, businesses can choose the correct load carrier.

PRECISE NAVIGATION

Autopilot tow trains support two highly accurate and adaptive navigation technologies. These are reflector or natural navigation, which when combined form dual navigation. The latter allows the trucks to switch between using reflectors for one area and using the warehouse environment. In doing this, it uses it as a reference for another area.

NATURAL NAVIGATION

For most automated towing solutions natural navigation is optimal. Natural navigation is a method for automated tow trains to navigate using the wider environment. This navigation method utilises recognisable reference points or landmarks within the warehouse. These include walls, racking and fixed objects, which the Autopilot uses to calculate the truck’s location. Natural navigation is a low-cost alternative for warehouses where the surroundings remain consistent. Automated tow trains navigate the environment without the need for extra equipment. Meaning no need for reflectors, thus avoiding extra cost and installation of additional equipment.

SMART CHARGING

Autopilots can be equipped with Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are known to be up to 30% more energy-efficient whilst also reducing CO2 emissions. Better still, automated warehouse trucks are able to auto-charge between tasks. Without the need for personnel or charging rooms. – making them fully automated.
