Express Logistics Ltd Harrow

Now based in Colney Street, Express Logistics (Harrow) Ltd is a freight logistics business that has seen pallet throughput increase by up to 100% over the last eighteen months.

Express Logistics Ltd (Harrow)

Background & Brief

Logistics companies oversee, manage and control the movement – and storage – of goods and tendered services. Ordinarily, they facilitate transportation between the points of origin and consumption. Yet, their skills might also apply to inventory, warehousing, material handling, packaging and disposal of goods.

It’s this combination of human resources that ensure a smooth and cost-effective journey.

Originally in Harrow, Express Logistics has been a Locators customer since 2009. Since then, we have helped them move to a new site and transition from LPG to an electric-powered forklift. As with the majority of logistic companies, the impact of COVID-19 meant their pallet throughput has increased by 100% over the last 18 months. Such hefty expansion necessitated relevant upgrades to streamline their business, and so they reached out to us once more.

Solution

At Locators, we provide fully integrated materials handling and storage systems for your business. As part of Express Logistics’ move, we supplied and installed adjustable pallet racking (APR). This low-cost system has a modular design and is perfect for storing different sized goods on its timber decks. Combined with rack armour guards, each section offers safe and flexible storage for palletised goods.

In addition to this, we suggested Express Logistics replace their older trucks with three new Toyota forklifts.

Unlike the lead-acid batteries that their previous trucks relied on, we put forward x2 8FBM20T and x1 8FBMT25 electric trucks with Midac lead-acid fast-charge batteries. We delve further into specific battery types for forklifts here. The benefit of Midac fast-charge batteries is that they combine the best attributes of both lithium AND standard lead-acid batteries.

Compared to lead-acid batteries, comparable lithium batteries are generally 40-50% smaller which reduces the run-time at busy peak periods when they cannot be charged.

Midac fast charge is the same size as standard lead acid which makes them ideal for peak early morning shifts when trucks run flat out for 4-5 hours and they can then be opportune-charged, like lithium, at quieter times to provide extended run times during the day. This feat cannot be achieved with standard lead-acid batteries, unless spare battery change is utilised, and offers optimised usage. Commercially, Midac fast-charge is a lower cost than both lithium and standard lead-acid with a spare battery change. Going forward, Express Logistics is now far more prepared for the tasks at hand.
