Operating in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, K A Lloyd hire out small tools, compaction plates, dumpers, diggers, road sweepers and more. Big or small, they have the tools to get the job done.
K A Lloyd is a family-run business who are plant & tool hire, groundwork specialists. They have a variety of machines to help with any job, including a range of conventional telescopic handlers at their disposal. However, a new construction site brought about new challenges.
With poor site access, the road left little room for manoeuvring and was positioned on an inclined verge. This in itself was problematic, but to make matters worse, the other side of the site hoarding possessed an entirely separate issue. Swimming pools had been purpose-built into the basements – meaning there was a lift shaft 5m below ground level. The tiles for these swimming pools were in 800kg stillage’s need to be lifted and lowered by K A Lloyd down this lift shaft.
Locators have worked with K A Lloyd for over 30 years. The solution we offered was a Manitou Rotary Telehandler (MRT). No matter your location’s constraints, MRTs are versatile machines that can be used on pneumatic tires or stabilisers. They’re great for construction sites that have little room to manoeuvre or are on tight, inclined verges. Capable of operating on all terrains, they combine the capacities of 3 machines in 1 – telescopic mode, platform mode, and can act as a suspended load lifting device.
Once the materials were unloaded on the kerbside, K A Lloyd swung the MRT’s boom out onto the road. They then lifted the loads up and over the site hoarding – as pictured with the reinforced bars. The tiles for the swimming pools were in 800kg stillages, which had to be lifted and lowered down the lift shaft 5m below ground level.
The MRT proved a success and KA Lloyd are now able to hire out Manitou telescopic handlers ranging from 6m, 10m, 12m, 18m and 21m lift height.
“I first met Jonathan thirty-one years ago, when he offered £500 for my old JCB digger. “We’re not going to get on!” I said but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We’ve had a great working relationship over the years and this is just another feather in the cap. Five pallets, five hours. I think that’s bloody good going for 800kg stillages in the tight conditions we were working in. As you can tell, I’m very happy working with Jonathan – and Locators – and look forward to continuing our work together.”
As well as being a world-class piece of machinery, the 2150 is amongst a comprehensive range of Manitou Rotary Telehandlers (MRT). Each MRT comes fitted with Manitou’s E-Reco attachment recognition system. This allows for cross-compatibility across a wide range of Manitou Group homologated attachments.
